Prevention beats remediation. In our experience these three habits eliminate most findings that routinely show up in web application assessments.
1. Parameterized queries everywhere
SQL injection disappears when every query is prepared and no user input is concatenated into SQL. Same principle applies to command injection, LDAP injection and every other interpreter boundary.
2. Server-side authorization on every request
Never rely on hiding buttons to secure an action. Every endpoint must independently verify that the caller is authenticated and authorized for that specific object and function.
3. Context-aware output encoding
Encode based on where data is emitted: HTML body, attribute, JavaScript, URL, CSS. A single global escape function is not enough — the context decides the encoding.
The habit layer
Habits work when they are enforced in code review, automated tests and shared libraries — not left to each developer to remember.
